One of the most exciting opportunities available to our students is the annual 7th Grade Washington, D.C. Trip. Introduced just two years ago, this enriching educational experience has quickly become a favorite tradition among students and families, creating memories that last a lifetime. Led by our High School History Teacher, Mrs. Mary Beth Newchurch, and chaperoned by dedicated SAS faculty and staff, the trip brings history, government, and civics to life in a way that simply cannot be replicated in the classroom. Students have the opportunity to visit many of our nation's most significant landmarks, monuments, museums, and memorials while gaining a deeper appreciation for American history and citizenship.
The trip is professionally organized through a trusted travel company, allowing families to enjoy a worry-free experience. Every detail—from transportation and accommodations to daily itineraries and guided tours—is carefully planned and managed. Students and parents are accompanied throughout the trip by experienced tour guides who provide engaging insights and historical context at each destination. While participation is not required, we strongly encourage our 7th-grade students to take advantage of this incredible opportunity. Parents are also welcome to attend, making the experience even more special for families who wish to share in the adventure.
More than just a class trip, Washington, D.C. is an immersive learning experience that inspires curiosity, fosters independence, strengthens friendships, and creates unforgettable memories. Students return home with a greater understanding of our nation's history, a renewed sense of civic responsibility, and stories they will be sharing for years to come.
At St. Andrew the Apostle School, we believe learning should extend beyond the classroom, and our Washington, D.C. Trip is a perfect example of how we bring education to life through meaningful, real-world experiences.
