Specials

At St. Andrew the Apostle School, we believe some of the most meaningful learning happens when students are allowed to explore their interests and discover new passions. Our unique Specials Program is designed to do just that, offering middle school students a variety of engaging elective courses that enrich their educational experience beyond the traditional classroom.

Students select from a wide range of topics and are placed in small groups, allowing for personalized instruction, hands-on learning, and meaningful interaction with their teachers and peers. Current Specials offerings include Service Learning, Stop Motion Animation, Theater, Debate, Forensics, Etiquette, Greek Mythology, Health and Nutrition, Entrepreneurship, Money Management, Cross-Stitching, New Orleans Churches and Cemeteries, Coding, and Video Storytelling. New electives are added as students continue to express interest in emerging topics and areas of study.

One of the most exciting aspects of the Specials Program is that students have the freedom to choose courses that genuinely interest them. This creates an environment where students are eager to learn, actively engaged, and motivated to develop new skills. Whether they are creating animated films, learning the art of public speaking, exploring business concepts, serving their community, or studying local history and culture, students are challenged to think creatively, collaborate with others, and grow in confidence.

Each Specials class concludes with a culminating activity or project that showcases the knowledge and skills students have acquired throughout the course.

Our students consistently describe Specials as one of their favorite parts of the school week. The program allows them to step outside of their regular academic routine, explore potential hobbies and future career interests, and experience the joy of learning something new. Parents appreciate seeing their children discover hidden talents, build practical life skills, and develop a deeper sense of curiosity and independence.
